Western Herbal medicine uses the active constituents of plants that have scientific evidence on their efficacy to treat a range of conditions. Herbs are made into herbal tinctures (herbs are extracted in water or alcohol), tea, and range of other carriers such as topical creams. These are developed into individual prescriptions for our patients. We treat the patient as a whole not just the condition that they have presented with. Orthodox medicine uses pharmaceutical drugs and diagnostic skills, Western medical herbalists use diagnostic skills and herbal medicines.
Medical Herbalists trained at BSC level will have undertaken conventional medical degree training including; anatomy and physiology, Pharmacology, biochemistry, clinical practise and differential diagnose pathology. Maintaining good health and working alongside the patients other health professionals is central to the Western herbal medicine approach. Lifestyle advice may be part of the patients individual care programme.
